The terminology, untangled

An electronic notary (eNotary) is a notary authorized to use an electronic signature and seal instead of ink and a rubber stamp. That says nothing about where you are: in-person electronic notarization (IPEN) still requires you to show up physically. “Digital notary” and “virtual notary” are marketing terms with no legal definition — they usually mean one of the two real categories.

Remote online notarization (RON) is electronic notarization performed over live, recorded video — the signer can be anywhere. What you receive

A PDF bearing the notary's electronic signature, electronic seal, and a digital certificate that makes any later alteration detectable. For domestic use, that PDF is your finished document.
