RON, ExplainedWhat RON means
Remote online notarization — RON — is notarization performed over a secure, recorded audio-video connection instead of in person. The signer and the notary appear together on screen; the signature and the notary's seal are applied electronically; the entire session is recorded and retained as required by law. RON is authorized by statute in the large majority of US states, and Florida's version (Chapter 117, Part II) is among the most established.
Identity proofing: stronger than in-person
A walk-in notary glances at your driver's license. A RON session runs two independent checks before you ever see the notary: credential analysis (your government ID is scanned and machine-validated for security features) and knowledge-based authentication (identity questions drawn from public records that only you should be able to answer). It's the identity standard lenders and title companies trust for closings.
What a RON session looks like
You receive a session link, complete the ID scan and identity questions in about three minutes, then join the video call. The notary confirms your identity on camera, witnesses your electronic signature, applies the electronic seal and digital certificate, and the sealed PDF is delivered to you — typically 15 minutes start to finish.
RON vs. eNotary vs. IPEN
The terms get mixed up constantly. RON is remote — you and the notary are in different places. IPEN (in-person electronic notarization) uses electronic signatures but still requires you to appear physically. “eNotary” and “digital notary” are umbrella terms that can mean either. What RON costs
$45 per document, all-inclusive — the $25 online notarial act permitted by Florida law plus the platform, identity-proofing, and service fee, itemized per F.S. 117.275. Documents headed abroad can add the Florida apostille in the same order ($299 US delivery, $499 worldwide).
